Light & Shading

I felt this object to draw was quite difficult. Not only was the shape unusual but the lighting environment itself. When I First started drawing, I kept in mind to keep my values as light as possible so I could slowly build stronger values ontop. As the object was set in a mid ranged lit environment as well as being white, it was hard to pin point lighter to darker areas of the object - being almost an illusion. If I took more time focusing on the lighting than trying to draw the obscured shape, I would have had better results as it threw me off a bit. I also believe that I could put more consideration into my shading as the scratchy lines creates unneeded details. I blame the mechanical pencil and my terrible shading skills...
